Garden Show
Sculpture + Landscaping = A great idea
The State Fair Fall Garden Exhibition, a good idea back in 2002, has only gotten better in the ensuing years. Originally a professional landscaping contest during the 24-days of the Fair, it's not uncommon now for participants to maintain their beds year-round. Sculpture by area artists adds splashes of color, texture, form, whimsy, sound or serenity to the spaces. The completion of the Greenhouse on the Midway provides a perfect setting for the all new Southern Living Lecture Series - offered each Saturday and Sunday during the State Fair. From eight landscaping firms in the beginning, to more than 50 companies tending 100 beds today, the Fall Garden Exhibition includes artwork by more than 40 sculptors. Bragging rights and unmatchable exposure are incentives, plus the plants and art offer a tangible example of how guests can tackle their own green spaces.
