More than 1,000 participants, sponsors and volunteers helped make the 7th annual State Fair 5K Run and Big Tex Mile a whopping success on Sept. 29 at Exposition Plaza. Proceeds benefit the 2008-2009 recipients of the State Fair Scholarship Fund.

Debbie Arzola, of Lucas, was top overall female winner with a chip time of 18:21.05. The top winner on the men's side was Jordan Kinley of Norman, OK, who posted a 14:55.45. Results are posted at http://www.runontexas.com/

Arzola and Kinley received two complimentary Southwest Airline tickets, and Big Tex commemorative awards were handed out for the top three categories in a ceremony following the race. Snacks, drinks and prizes were donated by backers of the event. DISD Board Trustee Ron Price served as grand marshal, and the national anthem was sung by Anthony and Sarah Garcia.

Race sponsors included Time Warner Cable, Lockheed Martin, Wal-Mart, Chicago Title, State Fair of Texas Task Force, DART, Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Airlines, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Run On!, Cantex Realties, Inc., Coca-Cola, Joseph Industries, Lynxx USA, Ben E.
