State Fair of Texas Scholarship
Madison High School seniors and winners of 2008 DISD State Fair Scholarships.
The board of directors of the State Fair of Texas will honor 28 scholarship recipients and their parents along with counselors and administrators from four Dallas Independent School District (DISD) high schools at a luncheon on May 6 in the Crystal Terrace at the Music Hall.
Joining in the salute will be members of the Dallas Park Board and State Fair executive committee and staff, along with representatives from various community organizations. Michael Sorrell, president of Paul Quinn College, will be the guest speaker.
Outstanding seniors who have participated in State Fair livestock shows are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
The $5,000 scholarship grants are renewable in $1,250 annual increments over four years if the student maintains a 3.0 grade point average and makes satisfactory progress toward a degree from an accredited Texas college or university. This program was established in 1992 by the State Fair of Texas to benefit students who attend high schools in the Fair Park area. The Fair also offers scholarship assistance to young people from around the state who have participated in State Fair livestock programs. Since 1992, the State Fair of Texas has awarded approximately $2 million in new and renewed scholarships through these two programs.
